Worldwide leader in breast care products teams up with Young Survival Coalition to raise funds supporting the growing number of women under 40 fighting breast cancer.
Atlanta, GA – October 1, 2009 –- Amoena USA Corporation, the worldwide leader in breast care products, has signed on to be the title sponsor of the first Tour de Pink charity cycling event, hosted by the Atlanta affiliate of the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), on Saturday, Oct.17 at Perimeter Mall in Atlanta. The event offers routes in length from one to 100 miles and raises funds for young survivor support, education and awareness.
“The goal of Tour de Pink is consistent with Amoena’s mission. With every product we design and initiative we support, our goal is to help women regain their dignity and positive self-image during their journey toward wellness,” said Malissa Magyar, Marketing Manager, Amoena USA. “As more and more women are being diagnosed at a younger age, Amoena is proud to lend its support to this worthwhile cause.”
According to the American Cancer Society, 182,460 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and more than 11,500 of those women are 40 and under. In fact, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women ages 15 to 54. Unlike their post-menopausal counterparts, young women diagnosed with breast cancer face higher mortality rates, fertility issues and the possibility and ramifications of early menopause. There are nearly 250,000 women in the United States under the age of 40 currently living with breast cancer. In metro Atlanta alone, more than 500 young women will be diagnosed this year.
“The Atlanta affiliate of YSC is excited to have Amoena’s support of our first Tour de Pink charity bike event,” said Courtney Bugler, Executive Director, YSC Atlanta. “YSC and Amoena share a common purpose—to help improve the quality of life for women recovering from breast cancer. This event allows us to celebrate these deserving women and raise funds to support young survivors.”
As title sponsor, Amoena will be on-site at the Community Expo with samples from its industry-leading portfolio of breast forms, partial symmetry shapers, specialty textiles, swimwear and accessories. The company also has formed Team Amoena consisting of Amoena employee and family members who will ride in support of the cause Oct. 17.
